When you actually need full removal, not a grind
For most yards, grinding is the right call, faster, cheaper, and it leaves the lawn intact. Full removal is the exception, and it matters when you genuinely need the root mass gone: planting a new tree in the exact same hole, pouring a foundation, addition, driveway, or patio where the stump stands, or grading a lot clean. In those cases a grind that only goes 6 to 12 inches down is not enough.
Full removal excavates the entire stump and its root ball out of the ground. It is more involved than grinding, it leaves a large void that needs backfill and settling time, and it is harder on the surrounding yard, so we recommend it only when your plans actually require it. Tell us what is going in the spot and we will point you to the option that fits, even when that is the cheaper grind.
